RegTool: Worthy or Not?
Over the last couple of months, I have tried out quite a few registry cleanup software, some of the products were disappointing, but RegTool passed the test and is one of the few low-cost cleaning software that made an impression.
RegTool offers a broad range of features that include automatic and manual repair, customized scanning and an efficient backup mechanism.
I inserted the software CD and begun the installation which was really easy and straightforward and I basically got through it with a few clicks. I then ran the scanning utility and found that there were a lot of issues reported. In fact it reported more errors(414 to be exact) than many other registry fixing software.
It did look suspicious at the beginning as I am very wary of products that report excessive errors in a computer. I spent a good deal of time analyzing the report. While most of the reported errors were valid, it did seem to indulge in over-analysis and marked alarms for any vaguely suspected corruptions or entries.
Nevertheless, I went about fixing errors using the auto-fix feature. It manages Javascript and DLL errors with elan and does a good job of optimizing both user and system related problems. It exhibited proficiency in malware/spyware removals and also removed unnecessary traces of junk internet data in a flash.
RegTool features can be classified as under
- Make system Restore points
- Regain Wasted Disk Space
- Fix Empty Registry Keys
- Manage Recently Used Files
- Organize Start-up Items
- Block Bad Active-X objects and Register good ones
- Make Windows Load Faster
- Fix Invalid Application Paths
- BHO Manager Tool
Apart from the autofix feature, RegTool also offers you manual fixing options, giving you firm control of the repairing process. I tried this option and it works alright, but you need to know what you are doing. I would advise most users to refrain from trying the manual fix in RegTool.
The backup and restore functionality is very important in a registry cleaner, especially one that offers manual fixing options. I tried both the restore and backup feature and found them to be at par with the best. So, if you ever end up deleting an important registry entry or are infected with spyware, you could rely on RegTool to get your computer back to its previous best state. The 'update' feature is pretty good, so you can expect constant updates throughout your license period.
Regtool offers a hassle-free, 8 week refund policy. I have not tested this, but there seem to be quite a few users who are unhappy with their customer support, so you might want to investigate further on that. For the record, they offer limitless, free technical support, round the clock.
Bottom Line: RegTool is a very user friendly and functional interface that does the job very well and should suit both experienced and novice users alike.
